Photographer David Knox returns to Cole Pratt Gallery this summer with his newest series of photomontage prints on aluminum.  In this series, "Ritual and Ruin: Tableaux of a Lost War," Knox cleverly layers his own photography with imagery from the Libary of Congress photography archives dating from 1861-1865.  Both North and South are represented in these fantastic scenes of The Civil War, and although the scenes are made up, the images seem truthful and serious.  Knox, who has long been fascinated with Civil War history, masterfully represents the time period without getting political.  These images are ghostly and sentimental monuments to American history, and yet totally modern in scale, composition, and materiality.
